Business Director (CH)

Grass Roots Meetings and Events, a BCD Meetings & Events company, has more than 1,400 employees in over 50 offices around the world. For the location Switzerland we are looking for CH Business Director.

Key purpose of the role

To actively grow and develop BCD/Grass Roots Swiss business division. To develop a pipeline of targeted prospective clients and subsequent acquisition and development of these accounts. To oversee the structure and management of the operations team and to be ultimately responsible for the financial performance of the division. To be responsible for quality initiatives, cost control, employee development/satisfaction and client satisfaction. To support the team in the strategic direction of all growth and retention accounts.

Principal responsibilities
Customer Satisfaction
  • Develop the proposition to engage the targeted sectors & accounts
  • Develop and manage strong relationships with clients that lead to becoming a trusted advisor
  • Identify opportunities to add value and grow client relationships to maximise profitability
  • Develop a thorough understanding of client’s business, industry and keep abreast of external issues & events that could impact on client objectives
  • Ensure that Grass Roots are invited to participate in targeted clients RFP’s and well positioned to respond
  • Ensure high standards of delivery and resolve client service concerns
Operational Excellence
  • Development & ownership of annual acquisition Sales Plan and updates
  • Ensuring Marketing Plan and campaigns are aligned with Sales Plan
  • Work closely with the other Grass Roots/BCD M&E Divisions to share knowledge and pipeline
  • Ownership of CRM for prospecting and acquisition pipeline management
  • Responsible for leading all CH RFI & RFP submissions
  • Responsibility for regular review of the performance of accounts, both internally & externally, to ensure desired outcomes for client and Grass Roots
  • Performs direct and indirect management of all vertical division personnel, including budget and cost management, quality service, client retention, employee development and satisfaction, process / policy adherence and contractual obligations within the division
  • Responsible for the resource management in the division
  • Execute the completion of personnel management to include: hiring, recruiting, training development and motivation
  • Actively manage the performance and development of direct reports and down line employees
  • Evaluation of regional training needs
  • Ensure proper human resources and company processes and policies are followed
  • Implement and support the divisional business strategy that is aligned with the regional and global vision of BCD Meetings & Events
Financial Performance
  • Perform financial analysis on an ongoing basis to include; budget preparation, volume forecasts, workload capacity, financial forecasts and client profitability
  • Drive profitability based on a deep understanding of the financials of each account
  • Accountable for commercial viability of each client proposition
  • Development of financially profitable new business costings and models
  • Responsibility for accurate forecasting of pipeline and forward window activity

Budget responsibilities
  • Accountable for the financial performance of the division
  • Responsible for the annual acquisition target
  • Accountable for acquisition of key target clients through mutually agreed annual targets
  • Monthly reviews and reforecasts
  • Monthly reporting of acquisition Sales v Target and acquisition pipeline
  • Manage all division costs in line with agreed budgets
Principal working relationships
Clients
  • Key point of contact for identified prospects & clients during the sales and delivery process
  • Continued involvement with clients as determined by Account plans
Internal relationships
  • Productive, inspiring and positive working relationships required with colleagues within the immediate team, supplier departments and the wider Grass Roots/BCD M&E business, particularly in delivering commercial, added value solutions.
  • Line management of Operations, Finance and Event Management heads
Skills and Experience
Essential
  • Prior managerial experience of 7 + years
  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in the meetings and events industry
  • Proven experience of selling M&E at senior Procurement, Marketing, HR and Travel levels
  • Proven business development and client relationship skills – being able to build rapport quickly & maintain and develop ongoing productive relationships
  • Strong influencing, negotiating & analytical skills
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively at all levels, articulate differentiation and model new M&E propositions
  • Proven track record of delivering profitable programmes for clients
  • Fluent English plus either German or French fluently
